In this article, we want to talk to you about the evolution of digital signage until today. As with everything related to the world of digitalization, this sector has undergone constant changes until it has become how we know it today. Interesting? Read on!
Leaving aside the transition from analog to digital, let’s look back and think about how we used to perceive big screens -or canvases, if we go back even further-. This was something reserved for large corporations, not accessible to most companies. But what about now?
Now it’s common to see digital signage devices in buildings, inside stores and restaurants, and even in cabs and public transport. Digital screens have become part of the urban landscape, and as such we are more used to them.
Also, if we look back at the beginning of the digitalization of Out-Of-Home communication, we see a clear trend: no specific content was developed for this media. So, although digital screens were more eye-catching, they were not used to their full potential. Of course, nothing to do with what we have now, don’t you agree?
From being tools for signage, digital signage screens have become devices to create new, interactive experiences, so we are used to many of the contents displayed on them being interactive. For example, Twitter timelines that display real-time user messages, QR codes that can be scanned with smartphones and even screens in restaurants where orders can be placed.
In fact, even if we don’t opt for interactive content, we can easily update and customize our messages depending on schedule and/or location of the screen. For example, in a supermarket, one message could be displayed in the morning and a different one in the afternoon, when parents come with their children from school. The same would happen, for example, in a congress center: we have the opportunity to adapt what we communicate to the business sector that is going to be addressed at each moment.
In short, we have gone from a mere signaling element to devices that allow us to interact with the user, personalize the content and keep us constantly updated. Without a doubt, the evolution of digital signage has been great, don’t you think? Contact us and discover all of our options!
